# Token Listing & Partnerships

Sonus aims to align with the community's preferences by distributing veNFTs to protocols that have actively contributed to the development and improvement of the Soneium ecosystem.&#x20;

These protocols, which we believe will continue to generate value in the future, encompass various categories such as yield aggregators, money markets, swap aggregators, other decentralized exchanges (DEXes), and more. This distribution of veNFTs serves as a recognition of their efforts and encourages ongoing collaboration within the ecosystem.

# What is a DEX?

Sonus is an automated liquidity protocol implemented in a system of non-upgradeable smart contracts on the Soneium blockchain.

The system in place obviates the need for trusted intermediaries, prioritizing **decentralization**, **censorship resistance**, and **security**.

Each Sonus smart contract, or pair, manages a liquidity pool made up of reserves of two ERC-20 tokens.

#### Permissionless market creation <a href="#heading-permissionless-market-creation" id="heading-permissionless-market-creation"></a>

Users can permissionlessly create markets for a wide variety of tokens on a DEX. Users can then deposit tokens into these markets, facilitating token swaps without gatekeepers.

#### Price discovery <a href="#heading-price-discovery" id="heading-price-discovery"></a>

Users need token price history to do almost anything in DeFi. When DEXs are adequately liquid and active with swaps and arbitrage activity, they provide accurate pricing information on tokens, allowing oracles, automated trading, and other functions that rely on these data to operate correctly.

In practice, Sonus applies a 0.30% fee to trades. This functions as a payout to veSONUS voters, which is realized at the end of each epoch. This is the standard fee, but this can vary depending on the assets in the pair.

**Every DEX has the same goal as a marketplace: offer the best trade execution with the most liquidity, so traders use that DEX and not other modes of swapping.**

# Testnet vs Mainnet

All the users contributing on testnet and community awareness on socials will be highly rewarded, along with other key players in the ecosystem. \
Metrics and requirements to be selected will be revealed during the next days... Just keep an eye on our socials to be the first to know.

# V2 - Volatile AMM

# Swaps

Swaps in Sonus are different from trades on traditional platforms. Sonus does not use an order book to represent liquidity or determine prices. Sonus uses an automated market maker mechanism to provide instant feedback on rates and slippage.

The automated market making algorithm used by Sonus revolves around the constant product formula x\*y=k, where k is the invariant.

Each pair on Sonus is actually underpinned by a liquidity pool. Liquidity pools are smart contracts that hold balances of two unique tokens and enforces rules around depositing and withdrawing them.

When either token is withdrawn (purchased), a proportional amount of the other must be deposited (sold), in order to maintain the constant.

#### Liquidity provider fees <a href="#liquidity-provider-fees" id="liquidity-provider-fees"></a>

There is a default **0.3%** fee ( this can vary based on the assets in the pair ) for swapping tokens. \
**This fee is distributed in two different ways:**\
**- Staked LP : Fees are added onto the pool's gauge where they will be distributed to gauge veSONUS voters at the end of the epoch;**\
**- Unstaked LP : Fees go straight into the liquidity provider's position when a swap occurs.**

For unstaked LPs this increases the value of liquidity tokens, functioning as a payout to these liquidity providers proportional to their share of the pool.

# Pools

### Introduction <a href="#introduction" id="introduction"></a>

Each Sonus liquidity pool is a trading venue for a pair of ERC20 tokens. When a pool contract is created, its balances of each token are 0; in order for the pool to begin facilitating trades, someone must seed it with an initial deposit of each token. This first liquidity provider is the one who sets the initial price of the pool. \
They are incentivized to deposit an equal *value* of both tokens into the pool. To see why, consider the case where the first liquidity provider deposits tokens at a ratio different from the current market rate. This immediately creates a profitable arbitrage opportunity, which is likely to be taken by an external party.

When other liquidity providers add to an existing pool, they must deposit pair tokens proportional to the current price. If they don’t, the liquidity they added is at risk of being arbitraged as well. If they believe the current price is not correct, they may arbitrage it to the level they desire, and add liquidity at that price.

### Pool tokens <a href="#pool-tokens" id="pool-tokens"></a>

Whenever liquidity is deposited into a pool, unique tokens known as *liquidity tokens* are minted and sent to the provider's address. These tokens represent a given liquidity provider's contribution to a pool. The proportion of the pool's liquidity provided determines the number of liquidity tokens the provider receives. If the provider is minting a new pool, the number of liquidity tokens they will receive will equal sqrt(x \* y), where x and y represent the amount of each token provided.

Whenever a trade occurs, a 0.3% fee is charged to the transaction sender. This fee is distributed *pro-rata* to all LPs in the pool upon completion of the trade.

To retrieve the underlying liquidity, plus any fees accrued, liquidity providers must "burn" their liquidity tokens, effectively exchanging them for their portion of the liquidity pool, plus the proportional fee allocation.

As liquidity tokens are themselves tradable assets, liquidity providers may sell, transfer, or otherwise use their liquidity tokens in any way they see fit.

# V3 - Concentrated Liquidity AMM

Concentrated Liquidity is, currently, the most efficient and profitable method of market making that on-chain decentralized exchanges have access to. This was popularized and took the space by storm when Uniswap released their UniV3 model.\
\
To make it very clear the efficacy differential between x\*y=k (uniV2) and UniV3's orderbook-style AMM-- it needs to be explained that typical LP positions operate on a **(0,∞) range**.\
\
This means that each individual user in the pool is subject to providing liquidity in every possible positive real-number. \
\
Since every trade has to consider this when the swapping algorithms are ran, $100,000 of liquidity spread from 0 to ∞ is exponentially less efficient than, say, one with a defined range of ($1,000-$1,100). \
With the latter example of the $1,000-$1,100 liquidity range, it is calculatable that the same $100,000 of liquidity is now concentrated in a $100 price range, providing an **EXTREMELY efficient swapping experience**. Providing the lowest slippage currently feasible within the DeFi space.

# Swaps

With customizable tick spacing, optimized fees, and a custom fee algorithm, Sonus V3 is set to rapidly accumulate a fair share of total Soneium volumes and vamping away activity from the competition.

As volumes continue to increase, veSONUS voters will receive higher fee rewards and drive additional TVL to the pools, thus perpetuating the flywheel.

# Pools

# Sonus Token

### A DEX economy needs a token that can distribute and manage generated value <a href="#heading-a-dex-economy-needs-a-token-that-can-distribute-and-manage-generated-value" id="heading-a-dex-economy-needs-a-token-that-can-distribute-and-manage-generated-value"></a>

Sonus' model encourages active participation by holders.\
Tokenholders receiving distributions are likely to act in ways that maximize the protocol’s value generation in the long term.\
\
**SONUS Value Distribution**: On Sonus, 100% of the value generated from fees and incentives is distributed to veSONUS voters, permissionlessly and immutably, on a weekly basis.

**Value Management:** To be eligible for these distributions, veSONUS holders must perform their essential role for the protocol, which is to direct SONUS emissions to the liquidity pools on the DEX via gauge voting.

## SONUS

SONUS serves as the native token of Sonus Exchange, functioning as a standard ERC-20 token with no special attributes. Its core purpose is to facilitate value distribution within the Sonus ecosystem.

Each week, a set amount of SONUS is released into liquidity pools to attract liquidity providers (LPs) and compensate them for the risks they bear. This mechanism helps the protocol establish robust liquidity, which in turn drives trading fees for the platform.

LPs have several options upon receiving SONUS : they can hold it, reinvest it into SONUS liquidity pools, exchange it for other tokens, or utilize a unique feature — l[ocking it as vote-escrowed SONUS (veSONUS) for additional rewards.](/dex-related/vesonus-token)

# veSonus Token

veSONUS are specialized ERC-721 tokens that implement the vested-vote escrow (ve) model, representing a user's underlying position.

veSONUS have a multitude of benefits in the Sonus Exchange ecosystem, such as:

* Vote on gauge emissions
* Vote on pools to earn Vote Incentives, and Swap Fees
* Transfer/Merge/Split NFT positions
* Dilution Protection Rebases

[veSONUS holders play a key role in shaping the Sonus ecosystem.](/yields/voting) They can direct a portion of the weekly SONUS emissions toward specific liquidity pools to reward liquidity providers (LPs). In exchange, they receive all the fees and [incentives](/yields/incentivizing) generated from the pools they've chosen to support.

As a decentralized platform, Sonus entrusts veSONUS voters with the responsibility of guiding its long-term success and stability. They are the primary decision-makers and beneficiaries, with no privileged insider group having special influence.

As more participants become veSONUS holders, Sonus strengthens its economic foundation. This shared investment in the protocol's success builds lasting engagement, helping to draw in and keep users, while making it harder for competing decentralized exchanges (DEXs) to offer similar value.

# BUSL 1.1

Sonus Exchange custom code is protected under a BUSL-1.1 license

**Why?:** In light of the recent changes to the Sonus Exchange codebase, we have made the decision to fortify our implementation with a BUSL-1.1 license. This approach allows users to easily review our code and understand the nature of their interactions, while also providing protection against potential malicious forking and intellectual property theft.

**Authorized Forking:** The Sonus Exchange team is open to providing authorized forking of the codebase, based on our discretion. Any team that wishes to use our DEX model is free to reach out to us, and we can work on reaching an amicable agreement on the terms.

**Benefits of a BUSL-1.1 License for unique solidity contracts:**

1. Transparency: The license allows users to review the code and understand how it functions. This transparency promotes trust and confidence in the codebase.
2. Protection against malicious forking: The license helps safeguard against unauthorized or malicious forking of the codebase. It ensures that modifications and derivative works are done with proper authorization and under specific terms.
3. Intellectual property protection: By using the BUSL-1.1 license, the code's intellectual property rights are clearly defined and protected. This helps prevent unauthorized use, copying, or distribution of the code without proper permission.
4. Collaboration: The license encourages collaboration by allowing authorized forking. It provides a framework for potential users or teams to engage with the codebase and work together on improvements or modifications.
5. Legal clarity: The BUSL-1.1 license provides a legally recognized framework for the distribution and use of the code. It establishes clear terms and conditions that govern the rights and responsibilities of both the original code creators and any users or forking parties.

Overall, the BUSL-1.1 license promotes transparency, protects intellectual property, and facilitates collaboration while ensuring that the codebase's integrity and security are maintained.

## Emission Schedule

Sonus works on an epoch based system, meaning each epoch the emissions suffer adjustment to suit growth and stabilization periods.

* For the first 14 epochs the emissions of `$SONUS` tokens follow the formula (increasing 3% per week):

$$
Emissions(epoch(N)) = Emissions(N−1) ∗ 1.03
$$

After the first 14 epochs and until epoch 104 the emissions of `$SONUS` tokens follow the formula (decreasing 1% per week):

$$
Emissions(epoch(N)) = Emissions(N−1) ∗ 0.99
$$

After 104 epochs the emissions of `$SONUS` tokens follow the formula (decrease 0.1% per week):

$$
Emissions(epoch(N)) = Emissions(N−1) ∗ 0.999
$$

## Rebase

`$veSONUS` holders receive a rebase proportional to `$SONUS`emissions and to the ratio of `$veSONUS` to `$SONUS`supply, reducing vote power dilution for `$veSONUS`!

The weekly rebase amount is calculated with the following formula:

$$
rebase = weeklyEmissions × (1 - veSONUS.totalSupply ÷ SONUS.totalsupply)ˆ2 × 0.5
$$

This rebase formula will reward `$veSONUS` holders most when locking rates decrease, incentivizing new lockers to step in. `$veSONUS` supply does not affect weekly emissions distributed to liquidity providers.

## Emission Rewards

Each epoch, `$SONUS` emissions are distributed to liquidity pools proportionally to the `$veSONUS` voting power the pools receive.

Liquidity providers (LPs) can stake their LP positions to receive a share of the `$SONUS` distributed to each pool proportionally to the size of positions and time staked.

These rewards are distributed during the whole epoch and available for claiming as these accrue.

## Team Emissions

While a fully autonomous and immutable protocol is an admirable objective, it comes at a cost. Sonus will ensure its long-term sustainability by employing a dedicated team focused on supporting the product decentralization, documentation, community, and ecosystem.

To cover ongoing expenses and all the upcoming development efforts, 5% of the emissions will be going to the team address.

# Rewards

There are 3 types of rewards on offer from Sonus Exchange:

#### Emissions <a href="#emissions" id="emissions"></a>

The emissions are reserved for LP providers and are distributed over each epoch based on $veSONUS votes before the start of the new epoch. The rewards will stream over the epoch available for claiming as they accrue.

#### Fees <a href="#fees" id="fees"></a>

Fees are generated each time a trade is completed on the exchange. These fees are then streamed back to the gauge voters in their proportionate share of the vote. You can claim these rewards as they accrue for your selected pair/s.

#### Bribes <a href="#bribes-1" id="bribes-1"></a>

Lastly bribes are an additional opportunity for anyone holding $veSONUS. Bribes are potentially allocated to a gauge to incentivize voters to vote for that pair.

The bribes accrue and are only available for claim after the Wednesday 23:59 UTC snapshot is taken. They are proportionate to your voting power cast to the relevant gauge.

# Voting

$veSONUS holders will place their votes once a week on the selection of LP pairings they would like emissions to be distributed to. Each pool will get a determined amount of votes and the share of the total votes will equal the share of the epoch's $SONUS emissions directed to that epoch.\
All trading fees accrue in the epoch following the vote snapshot.

#### Voting Strategies <a href="#voting-strategies" id="voting-strategies"></a>

* Voting power (“ve”) decays linearly over the 104 weeks ( 2 years ) of lock.
* Votes don't carry over to the next epoch! So you have to revote before the end of each epoch.
* To earn maximum bribe & fees rewards from any pool in the epoch, you must max-lock your nft and re-cast your vote each epoch.
* Its generally recommended to vote on tuesdays or wednesdays to wait for the best bribe & fee offerings to show up.

{% hint style="info" %}
NEVER reset on an epoch where you want to vote! Resetting is only needed when the NFT will be transfered, merged into another or split into new ones.
{% endhint %}

### Bribes <a href="#bribes" id="bribes"></a>

Bribes are in addition to fees and will be claimable after the snapshot occurs at Wednesday 23:59 UTC, the end of each epoch.

# Incentivizing

### Vote Bribes

Users and protocols have the ability to offer bribes to voters, influencing them to allocate emissions to specific token pairs. In exchange for their votes, the voter receives a proportionate distribution of the bribes. This mechanism allows stakeholders to shape the allocation of emissions according to their preferences and strategic interests.

This bribing mechanisms empower users and protocols to actively participate in shaping the Sonus ecosystem, fostering liquidity provision, and driving value to specific token pairs. \
It promotes an inclusive and dynamic environment where stakeholders can engage in strategic collaborations and mutually beneficial arrangements.

# FAQ's

Covering some of the most questions asked by our users

<details>

<summary>Not able to execute swaps (I have tokens and everything is fine)</summary>

If you are not able to execute a swap and your "Swap" button is grayed out, it's most likely that you are trading a high price impact pool. You have some options to overcome it:

1. Click on the cog icon and increase your slippage
2. Click on the cog icon and enable expert mode

</details>

<details>

<summary>I'm not able to deposit my CL NFT on the V3 farm page</summary>

Make sure you have atleast 10$ worth of ETH on your wallet so you can successfully trigger the deposit. Don't worry depositing costs only a few cents, the 10$ is just used for the UI to correctly calculate and give some margin for tx fees during high network usage periods.
